How to Find Your Ring Size at Home: Complete Guide
Getting your ring size right is the most important step when buying a wedding band. The good news is that you can measure accurately at home in under five minutes. Below are four methods that work. Pick the one that suits you best.
Pro tip: Measure at the end of the day. Fingers swell slightly from warmth and activity. A morning measurement can come in up to half a size smaller than your true fit.
Method 1: Free Printable Ring Sizer
This is the easiest and most accurate option for home use. We designed our ring sizer to work exactly like the ones used by professional jewellers. Print it, cut it out, and slip it on.
Download the Berch Jewelry Ring Sizer (PDF)
- Print the PDF at 100% actual size. In your print dialog, choose "Actual Size" or "100%", not "Fit to Page".
- Before cutting, hold a ruler up to the 1-inch reference bar on the page. It must measure exactly 1 inch. If it does not, adjust your print settings and reprint.
- Cut out the strip along the dashed border. Then cut the small red slot.
- Thread the pointed end through the slot to form a loop.
- Slide the loop onto the finger you plan to wear the ring on. Pull the pointed end until the loop sits snugly at the base of your finger. Firm, but not tight enough to press into the skin.
- Read the number at the slot opening. That is your US ring size.
Method 2: Paper Strip or String
No printer available? This method works just as well. You only need a strip of paper, a pen, and a ruler.
- Cut a strip of paper about 5 mm wide and 15 cm long. A piece of dental floss or thin string works too.
- Wrap it around the base of the finger you will wear the ring on. It should sit snug against the skin without pressing in.
- Mark the exact point where the strip overlaps its starting edge.
- Lay the strip flat against a ruler. The distance from start to your mark, in millimetres, is your circumference.
- Find that number in the size conversion table below.
If your measurement falls between two sizes, choose the larger one. You can also contact us before ordering and we will help you decide.
Method 3: Plastic Ring Sizer Set
A plastic ring sizer set costs about as much as a coffee and gives you a reliable, repeatable measurement. If you are unsure between two sizes, this is the tool to get.
- United States: Amazon.com
- United Kingdom: Amazon.co.uk
- Germany: Amazon.de
- France: Amazon.fr
Most sets include both a flexible strip sizer and individual sizing rings. The individual rings give the more accurate reading. Slide them on until you find the one that passes over the knuckle without forcing and sits snugly at the base.
Method 4: Visit a Local Jeweller
Walk into any jewellery shop and ask them to size your finger. It is free, takes about a minute, and gives you the most reliable reading you can get. This is what we recommend if you are ordering a band that is 8 mm or wider, or if you are stuck between two sizes.
Ask for your size in US ring size format, a number such as 9 or 9 1/2. If they give you an EU or UK size, use the conversion table below to convert it.

Comfort Fit vs. Standard Fit: Does It Change Your Size?
Every Berch Jewelry ring is made with a comfort fit interior. The inside edge of the band is rounded, not flat, so it slides over the knuckle smoothly and sits comfortably at the base of the finger all day.
You do not need to adjust your size because of comfort fit. Order your true measured size.
If you have worn standard fit rings before and they felt snug, order that same size. The comfort fit interior will feel slightly more relaxed. Contact us if you want to talk it through before placing your order.
Does Ring Width Affect My Size?
Yes. A wider band presses against more surface area, so it naturally feels tighter at the same diameter. The rule is straightforward:
- Up to 6 mm wide: order your true measured size.
- 8 mm or wider: go half a size up.
When in doubt, size up. A ring with a little breathing room is far easier to live with than one that will not come off.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if I am between two sizes?
Always go with the larger size. A ring with a little room is comfortable and safe. A ring that is too small is a problem you do not want to deal with on a daily basis.
Can Berch Jewelry rings be resized?
Carbon fiber, titanium, and wood rings cannot be resized using traditional jewellery techniques. That is why accurate sizing before you order matters. If the fit is off when your ring arrives, reach out to us and we will work out a solution.
When is the best time to measure?
Evening is best. Your fingers are at their fullest after a normal day of activity and warmth. Measuring first thing in the morning can give you a reading that is half a size too small.
Which hand should I measure?
Measure the hand you plan to wear the ring on. Your dominant hand is typically half to a full size larger than the other, so getting the right hand right matters.
What if the ring does not fit when it arrives?
Contact us within 30 days. We will review the situation and find the best path forward. Using our printable sizer or visiting a jeweller before you order is the simplest way to avoid the issue entirely.
Still not sure about your size? Contact us before you order and we will help you get it right.
